Yandex and the Enterprise Incubator Foundation are opening a programming school in Armenia, in a joint educational project with the Vanadzor Technology Center.
At the Yandex Programming School – Armenia, senior high school pupils will learn to program at a basic level. Their introduction to programming will be with Python, a programming language that is not difficult to learn and which can be used for a wide range of tasks. One of the world’s most popular programming languages, it finds application in diverse organizations including Yandex – one of the largest internet companies in Europe, operating Russia’s most popular search engine – as well as the American space agency NASA, for example.
The one-year course, starting in January 2017, was developed at the Yandex School of Data Analysis (https://yandexdataschool.ru) and is aimed at 9th to 11th grade pupils interested in mathematics and information technologies. Tuition will be free of charge, with classes held twice weekly at the Vanadzor Technology Center in a group of no more than 14 pupils. There will be practical assignments to complete after each lesson. The teachers are local specialists who have been trained by Yandex.
The first half of the course will cover Python basics: variables, conditionals, loops, operators, lists and functions. The second half will deal with standard and external libraries, and also provide an introduction to object-oriented programming.
To enroll, applicants must first pass a test and an interview. The selection process takes place in December 2016.
